441 San Juan Atitan-0175San Juan Atitán

Lovely huipil with beautiful weaving and design. It is from San Juan Atitán in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala. This huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 4″ by 4 1/2″. The sides have been sewn to create armholes.

This daily use huipil is striking with woven designs that feature radiant suns, butterflies, mayan stars and zigzag rivers throughout the shoulders and bodice on both sides. The neck, shoulder, and chest area is woven with cotton and acrylic threads that have a multitude of colors including red, purple, turquoise, and blue. The soft background fabric is cotton with red, purple and white stripes. The neckline is trimmed with a hand embroidered accent in black and has a burgundy lace applique accent.

This huipil is in excellent used condition, with no sign of wear. There are a few loose threads from the weaving process. This is a very nice textile!
