660 San Juan Atitan-0454San Juan Atitán

Lovely blue huipil with beautiful weaving and design! It is from San Juan Atitán in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala. This expansive huipil measures 30″ across the shoulders and 20″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 4 1/2″ by 5 1/2″. The sides have been sewn to create armholes.

This daily use huipil is striking with woven designs that feature radiant suns, mayan stars and zigzag rivers throughout the shoulders and bodice on both sides. The neck, shoulder, and chest area is woven with cotton and acrylic threads that have a multitude of blue colors. The soft background fabric is cotton with red, purple and white stripes.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with no sign of wear. There are a few loose threads from the weaving process. This is a very nice textile!
