606 San Juan Cotzal-0354San Juan Cotzal

Very detailed vintage huipil from the village of San Juan Cotzal. This striking huipil measures 25 1/2″ across the shoulders, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is roundish/square and measures 5″ in diameter (tight to pull over adult head). The sides have had the stitching removed to open the arm holes, but can easily be restitched if desired.

This huipil features extensive and elaborate weaving of geomorphic figures that are representative for the area. The bodice is full of birds and little women and men. The weaving is a rainbow of colors woven on a white cotton blend background. The collar has been trimmed with a deep burgundy fabric and accented with narrow green, red, and blue stitching.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good used condition with some signs of wear. There are a couple of small stains in the bodice and a couple in the lower white section, but nothing to detract from the beauty of this vintage textile. Perfect for display or wear!
