San Lucas Tolimán

Elegant woven huipil from the area of San Lucan Toliman. This beautiful classic huipil measures 32 1/2″ across the shoulders, and 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is scalloped and measures approximately 5 1/2″ x 8″. The sides are stitched, creating armholes.

This huipil is very beautiful with a hand woven pattern throughout. The figures are woven into the background fabric on top of the stripes of light blue. The design cannot be seen from the underside. The design is alternating rows of birds and geomorphic zigzag rivers. It has a variety of colors including the predominant purple hue due to the horizontal stripes.  The woven background is soft navy blue cotton with light blue stripes. There is much use of lustrina thread creating a very soft garment. This is an example of the classic style huipiles of the San Lucas Toliman region.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in great used condition, perhaps a few loose threads. This is very normal and does not detract from this lovely huipil.
