722 San Lucas Toliman-1275San Lucas Tolimán

Elegant vintage woven huipil from the area of San Lucan Toliman. This beautiful classic huipil measures 34 1/2″ across the shoulders, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is scalloped and measures approximately 6″ in diameter. The sides are stitched, creating armholes.

This older huipil is very beautiful with a hand woven pattern throughout. The figures are woven into the background fabric on top of the white stripes. The design cannot be seen from the underside. The design is alternating rows of tiny geomorphic figures. The neck opening and sleeves are trimmed in black velveteen. The woven background is soft white woven cotton with red stripes. This is an example of the classic style huipiles of the San Lucas Tolimán region.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good vintage condition, with a few loose threads. There is some wear on the velveteen at the collar and sleeves. There is some variation in the colors due to age and storage. This is very normal for older huipiles and does not detract from this lovely textile.
