749 San Lucas Toliman-1664San Lucas Tolimán

Elegant vintage woven huipil from the area of San Lucan Toliman. This beautiful classic huipil measures 33″ across the shoulders, and 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is scalloped and measures approximately 6″ in diameter. The sides are stitched, creating armholes.

This older huipil is very beautiful with a hand woven pattern throughout. The figures are woven into the background fabric on top of the white stripes. The design cannot be seen from the underside. The design is alternating rows of tiny geomorphic figures. The neck opening and sleeves are accented in a beautiful machine embroidery featuring flowers and birds. The woven background is soft white woven cotton with burgundy-red stripes. This is an example of the classic style huipiles of the San Lucas Tolimán region.

This huipil is in good vintage condition, with a few loose threads. In the lower section there is a smaller stain and a small area that looks to have a spot of glue or wax. It is faint and doesn’t detract from the beauty of this textile!
