Elegant woven huipil from the area of San Lucan Toliman. This beautiful classic huipil measures 32″ across the shoulders, 32″ across the chest, and 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6″ in diameter. The sides are stitched, creating armholes.
This huipil is very beautiful with a hand woven pattern throughout. The tiny geomorphic figures are woven into the background fabric. The design is alternating rows of of birds and zigzag rivers. It has a variety of colors including the predominant purple blue and orange. The collar and sleeve openings are trimmed in red velveteen and accented with beautiful machine embroidery at the shoulder caps and flowing down the front from around the collar. There is some use of metallic thread in this machine embroidery. The woven background is soft, slightly faded, rich teal colored cotton. This is a wonderful example of the classic style huipiles of the San Lucas Toliman region.
