San Lucas Tolimán

Elegant woven huipil from the area of San Lucan Toliman. This beautiful classic huipil measures 24″ across the shoulders, 22 1/2″ across the chest*, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is scalloped and measures approximately 5″ x 6″. (Easily fits over average sized head). The sides are stitched, creating armholes. *Note: this huipil has stitching that runs down from the shoulders on both sides taking in the width by approximately 3″ on each side. This stitching can easily be removed, adding an additional 6″ to the width.

This three-panel huipil is very beautiful with a hand woven pattern throughout. The figures are woven into the background fabric in rows alternating with purple stripes. The design cannot be seen from the underside. The woven background is soft purple cotton with charcoal grey vertical stripes. This is an example of the classic style huipiles of the San Lucas Toliman region.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in great used condition, perhaps a few loose threads and slight lightening of the purple color in the upper section. This is very normal and does not detract from this lovely huipil.
