729 San Martin Chile Verde-1365San Martín Sacatepequez

Large vintage huipil from the San Martín Sacatepequez region of Guatemala, also know as San Martín Chile Verde. This larger huipil measures 33″ across the shoulders, 32″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 4″ along each of the four sides with an additional 3 3/4″ slit on the side to allow it to easily pull over the head. The sides have had the stitching removed, so this huipil opens completely for use as display. The sides can easily be stitched closed to create arm holes for wearing.

This huipil is beautiful with elaborate weaving that features multi-colored birds, corn plants, and mayan stars throughout the body. It is decorated with a machine embroidered collar of flowers and and a little lamb at the neckline. The neckline and sleeves are trimmed in black velvet. The background fabric is a woven deep hunter-green cotton blend.

This vintage huipil is in good used condition, with some sign of wear in the form of some loose threads in the bodice and some wear around the collar and sleeve openings. A wonderful large textile with stunning colors that would be beautiful to wear or display!
