Lovely woven huipil from the area of San Pedro Necta in the department of Huehuetenango. This very unique huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, and 19″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is a simple opening across the top seam that measures 9 1/2″ in length. The sides are stitched, creating armholes.
This huipil is very interesting and unique. The warp of the weaving is horizontal, which is unique to huipiles of San Pedro Necta. Instead of two panels that are seamed together vertically and folded across the shoulders, this huipil has the panels joined horizontally across the shoulders. There is a small colorful randa that runs the length of the shoulders. The head opening and sleeve openings have accent stitching as well. The design accents run through the bodice and are a variety of swans, hummingbirds, quetzals and flowers in a variety of pastel colors. The background is white cotton with burgundy and blue accent stripes.

This huipil is in very good used condition, perhaps a few loose threads and a small amount of wear at the neck opening and on a few of the designs. Perfect for display or for wear!
