San Pedro Sacatepéquez

Very lovely hand woven huipil, accented with geomorphic corn plants, zigzag rivers and mayan stars! It is from San Pedro Sacatepéquez. This large and elegant huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, and 26 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and measures 5 1/2″ on each of the four sides.

This huipil is very beautiful with a hand woven pattern throughout the blouse. It includes the classic diamonds and triangles representing the mountains, rain, and rivers. Along the shoulders and across the chest there are rows of corn plants and mayan stars that are woven into the design. The huipil has a rainbow of colors including the predominant blues and purples. The woven background is basic white cotton. This is a classic example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the San Pedro Sacatepéquez region.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with some minor signs of wear. There are slight creases from the shoulders down the front and back where it was stitched to narrow the width of the huipil. The caps of the sleeves have been tailored and stitched approximately 4″ in on each side to make them a little less ‘square’. The fabric has been trimmed below the stitching.
