San Raimundo

Very unique and hard to find huipil in excellent condition! This huipil is from the area of San Raimundo. This is a very unique ceremonial style huipil in its purple and white only background.  This lovely huipil measures 30” across the shoulders, and 22 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is circular and measures 6” in diameter. The sides are not stitched closed, so this huipil can be opened fully for display or easily stitched closed for wear.

This huipil is beautiful with its deep colors of purple and red on an elegant purple and white cotton background. Generally, huipiles of this area are woven on a multicolor background with much use of yellows. This is one for special occasion use due to its restricted color palate. The design features the traditional animal motifs found in the huipiles of this region, including feathered serpents and deer throughout the bodice. The colors of the figures are purple and red. There is much use of high-end thread in this huipil, i.e. cotton and lustrina.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in excellent used condition, with very little sign of wear. There are perhaps a few loose threads.
