Santa Maria de Jesús
Very stunning embroidered huipil in unique royal blue color! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This elegant and striking huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, and 26 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck diamond shaped and each of the four sides measures 5 1/2″ in length. The sides have had the stitching removed to open the arm holes, but can easily be restitched if desired.
This huipil is absolutely beautiful with brilliantly colored embroidery that features rows of birds and flowers in many shades of blues and purples on each side accented with yellows and greens. The background is a vibrant royal blue commercial fabric. The embroidery is machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. Just amazing! This is a unique variation on the incredibly beautiful ‘fiesta’ huipiles of Santa Maria de Jesús.
This huipil is in very good used condition, with perhaps some loose threads.
