Santa Maria de Jesús

Very stunning embroidered huipil, full of lifelike quetzales! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This elegant and striking huipil measures 27″ across the shoulders, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and measures 5 1/2″ on each of the four sides. The sides have had the stitching removed to open the arm holes, but can easily be restitched if desired.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with brilliant colored embroidery that features two quetzales (national bird of Guatemala) on each side of the huipil in a flower garden full of wonderful flowers. The colors are glowing jewel colors of greens, pinks, blues, purples, oranges, yellows and more! The neckline and sleeves are accented with black crochet. The background is a black commercial fabric. The embroidery is machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. Just amazing! This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful ‘fiesta’ huipiles of Santa Maria de Jesús.

This huipil is in good used condition, with some minor signs of wear such as loose threads and a small part of the crochet sleeve trim is missing on one side (approx 2″).
