Santa Maria de Jesús

Very stunning purple huipil in excellent condition. This ceremonial styled huipil is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This unique ‘sobre’ huipil measures 27 1/2 ” across the shoulders, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped, and each side measures 4 1/2″.

This huipil is in the ceremonial Santa Maria style and is beautiful with its striking purple colors and hand weaving that features the traditional feathered serpent throughout, with peacocks as well as the classic mayan diamond patterns. The colors are various shades of deep purple. There is much use of lustrina thread in this huipil, with its soft, satiny finish. The collar and sleeves have a thin purple crochet trim. The background fabric is a medium/heavy weight woven cotton.

This huipil is in excellent used condition, with very little sign of wear. Perhaps a few loose threads. A very rare find!
