874 Santa Maria de Jesus-4314Santa Maria de Jesús

Very unique huipil in stunning red and white. This ceremonial styled huipil is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This stunning huipil measures 29” across the shoulders, 29.5″ across the chest, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is a generous 7.5″ x 8.5″. The sides have had the stitching removed so that the huipil opens completely. It is fairly easy to restitch the sides  to create armholes.

This huipil is in the ceremonial Santa Maria style and is beautiful with its crisp colors and hand weaving that features traditional artiseda woven diamonds across the chest and shoulders. It is fully woven. The colors are red, purple, with black accents. The background fabric is a medium weight white woven cotton blend with red stripes.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good used condition, with very little sign of wear. Perhaps a few loose threads and a couple of very faint stains. The sides of this huipil were previously taken in along the shoulders and it appears that there are about 5 or 6 small (0.5″ or less) cuts/pulls in the weaving where the stitching was removed along the sides. A stunning textile!
