Santa Maria de Jesús

Very stunning embroidered huipil, full of beautiful birds in a colorful garden! It is from the town of Santa Maria de Jesús. This elegant and striking huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders, 26″ across the chest, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6 1/4″ in diameter. The sides are stitched to create armholes.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with brilliantly colored embroidery that features birds, flowers, and grapes on each side of the huipil in a flower garden. The colors are glowing jewel colors of greens, blues, purples and more! The background is a black commercial fabric. The embroidery is all machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. Just amazing! The neckline and sleeves are accented with black crochet trim. This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful ‘fiesta’ huipiles of Santa Maria de Jesús.

This huipil is in excellent used condition with very little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. A truly exquisite textile!
