556 Santiago Atitlan-1435Santiago Atitlán

Very stunning lavender-blue embroidered huipil, full of beautiful birds! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This elegant huipil measures 31″ across the shoulders, and 22 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6″ in diameter. The sides have had the stitching removed to open the arm holes, but can easily be restitched if desired.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with elaborate embroidery that features rows of stunning birds using a variety of colors inspired by the nearby lake waters. The embroidery is all machine done free-hand, and is truly an art form. The woven striped cotton background is light purple-blue with stripes of dark purple. Just amazing! This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the Santiago Atitlán region.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with minimal sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. There are a few faint stains in the lower bodice section, but they do not detract from the beauty of this piece of art!
