658 Santiago Atitlan-1057Santiago Atitlán

Sweet young girl’s hand-embroidered huipil, full of flowers and birds! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This elegant huipil measures 18″ across the shoulders, and 19″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter. The sides have been stitched arm holes.

This vintage huipil is stunning with all hand-embroidery that features roosters and turkeys filling the squares throughout the bodice. The background is a very faint light blue cotton inspired by the nearby lake waters. Hand done embroidery is not often seen on newer huipiles. This lovely vintage huipil was probably passed down to several girls in the same family.

This huipil is in fair used condition, with some sign of wear, including a few loose threads. This is a beautiful piece of art that would be lovely to display!
