Santiago Atitlán

Very stunning light blue embroidered huipil, full of beautiful birds! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This elegant huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6 1/2″ in diameter. The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with elaborate embroidery that features rows of stunning lifelike birds. The embroidery is all done by hand, and is truly an art form. The woven striped cotton background is light blue with stripes of dark blue. The collar is accented with hand stitched flowers with a tiny hint of metallic thread. Just amazing! This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the Santiago Atitlán region.

This huipil is in very good used condition with minimal sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. There is slight wear in the bodice and what appears to be repair. The lower edge has wear on one side, but it does not detract from the beauty of this piece of art!
