685 Santiago Atitlan-0645Santiago Atitlán

Very stunning lavender embroidered huipil, full of hundreds of unique birds!! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This elegant huipil measures 28″ across the shoulders, and 29″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 6″ in diameter.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with elaborate hand embroidery that features row upon row of beautiful hand-embroidered birds filling the bodice. The neckline is accented with a spectacular design of white calla lilies with a large and detailed bird in the center on each side. This embroidery of the collar is hand-guided machine embroidery.  The woven striped cotton background is soft lavender with stripes of dark purple. Just amazing! This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the Santiago Atitlán region.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with minimal sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. There is some slight wear around the neck opening and in a few places in the bodice.
