735 Santiago Atitlan-1453Santiago Atitlán

Very unique woven huipil with hand embroidery and crochet flower accents! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This elegant huipil measures 27 1/2″, 24″ across the shoulders, 24″ across the chest*, and 23″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 6 1/4″ along each of the four sides. The sides have been stitched closed to create armholes. *This huipil has been taken in from the shoulders a substantial amount. If this stitching was removed, it would measure approximately 28″ across the chest laid flat.

This huipil is stunning with extensive hand embroidered birds across the chest on both sides. These sweet birds are in a variety of colors with strikingly blue eyes and accents of metallic threads. This huipil has the recent and popular style of a crochet flower insert that runs down from the shoulders on both sides. The background fabric is a pink/purple cotton with cranberry stripes. The collar and sleeves are trimmed in a cranberry crochet accent.

This huipil is in great used condition, with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. The background color on this huipil is a soft dye so there are some slight color variations throughout the textile. A stunning piece for wear or display!
