Santiago Atitlán

Very stunning lilac, embroidered huipil, full of beautiful birds! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This elegant huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, 24″ across the chest, and 23″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is a generous 7″ in diameter. The sides have been stitched to create armholes. *Note, the sides of this huipil have been tailored, taken in and the excess fabric cut, so they cannot be opened out completely.

This huipil is absolutely beautiful with elaborate weaving that features rows of sweet birds and other figures. The woven striped cotton background is lilac with stripes of dark blue/black and deep purple. The accent around the neck opening is free-hand machine embroidery. This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the Santiago Atitlán region.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in very good used condition with minimal sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. There a very small stain on the side of the bodice. Nothing to detract from the beauty of this piece of art!
