Santiago Chimaltenango 403-0388Santiago Chimaltenango

Striking blousa huipil from the area of Santiago Chimaltenango. Unique blouse style huipil worn only in two areas of Guatemala beautifully woven with stripes throughout the bodice with accent squares of Mayan geomorphic figures weaving across the chest, back, shoulders and sleeves. Simple open collar. This blouse-style with added sleeves is common for the areas of Santiago Chimaltenango and Sololá.

This huipil measures 24″ across the shoulders (not including the length of the sleeves), 20 1/2″ from the shoulders to the bottom hem, and the neck opening is a trimmed collar that measures 22″ in total circumference including a slit down the front that measures 5″ in length. The sleeves each measure 7 1/2″ in length.

This huipil is accented with acrylic blend thread designs on a woven red cotton background fabric. The accents are in a variety of pastel hued colors including greens, pinks, purples, lemon yellows, etc. Very lovely to look at! This huipil also has a matching corte (skirt) and faja (belt) that creates a complete traje (outfit). There are detailed geomorphic figures of birds and flowers on the front and raised weaving featured below the collar.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in excellent used condition. The are no visible signs of wear, but perhaps a few loose thread. This is a very elegant textile and spectacular as a full traje/outfit! (See corte #361 and faja #385).
