527 Santiago Chimaltenango-0271Santiago Chimaltenango

Ornate smaller blousa huipil from the area of Santiago Chimaltenango. Unique blouse style huipil worn only in two areas of Guatemala. This huipil is beautifully woven with stripes throughout the bodice with accent squares of Mayan geomorphic figures weaving across the chest, back, shoulders and sleeves. Simple open collar. This blouse-style with added sleeves is common for the areas of Santiago Chimaltenango and Sololá.

This smaller huipil measures 20″ across the shoulders (not including the length of the sleeves), 23″ from the shoulders to the bottom hem, and the neck opening is a trimmed collar that measures 19″ in total circumference including a slit down the front that measures 4 1/2″ in length. The sleeves each measure 8″ in length.

This huipil is accented with acrylic blend thread designs on a woven red cotton background fabric. The accents are in a variety of pastel hued colors including greens, pinks, purples, lemon yellows, etc. Very lovely to look at! There are detailed geomorphic figures on the front and mayan stars woven below the collar.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with a few small and faint stains in the deep red area, but they do not detract from the beauty of this blouse!
