876 Solola-4266Sololá

Vintage Huipil from the department of Sololá. This huipil measures 32.5″ across the shoulders, 27.5″ across the chest*, and 24″ from the shoulders to the bottom edge. The neck opening is round and measures approximately 6.5″ in diameter. The sides have been stitched to create armholes. *The sides of this huipil have been taken in approximately 2″ on each side. If this stitching was removed, it would make the huipil larger.

This huipil is woven in the traditional style of Sololá with a rainbow of colors.  There are traditional ikat style woven stripes throughout the bodice with accents in the upper portion. They are hand-guided, machine done embroidered figures. There is a predominantly black and brown cotton blend background with a variety of colors throughout the bodice.

Additional photos can be found here.

This vintage huipil is in great used condition with little sign of wear. Perhaps a few loose threads. One one side where the center panels join there is a section of about 6″ where the stitching has been removed. This is easily restitched, and if asked we would be glad to restitch before shipping. A striking huipil!
