Brightly colored huipil full of deer, birds, and Mayan stars! This huipil is from the town of Tactic in the region of Alta Verapaz. This lovely huipil measures 37” across the shoulders, 29″ across the chest, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is rectangular and measures 6” x 6 1/2”.

This three-panel tailored huipil is colorful with its mayan geomorphic designs throughout the body. The weaving is accented with traditional deer, birds, people, corn plants, and mayan stars in the bodice. The colors are green, teal, pink, and blue. There is much use of arti-seda thread in this huipil. The background fabric is a medium weight orange cotton. There is an extra panel of commercial cotton/acrylic fabric sewn to the bottom edge of this huipil to extend the length. This can easily be removed.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good used condition, with a little sign of wear in the form of some loose threads. There are some faint discolorations throughout the orange background fabric where some of the other colors have bled slightly. Please note that this huipil is tailored below the sleeves and cannot be opened to make it larger like with some other huipiles.
