Stunning huipil full of Mayan stars! This huipil is from the town of Tactic in the region of Alta Verapaz. This lovely huipil measures 30” across the shoulders*, and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is scalloped and measures approximately 5 1/2” in diameter.
This huipil is elegant with its splash of colors throughout the body. The weaving is accented with traditional mayan stars. The collar and sleeve caps are accented with free-hand machine embroidery of flowers in pink, purple, and green with gold accent thread. The neckline and sleeves are also trimmed with black crochet. There is an extra panel of commercial fabric sewn to the bottom edge of this huipil to extend the length. This can easily be removed. *If this added fabric is removed, the side stitching can be removed to widen this huipil by approximately 5″. This row of side stitching runs down each side at the shoulders to make this huipil more narrow.
This huipil is in good used condition, with a little sign of wear in the form of some loose threads in the center of the bodice. There are a couple of small faint stains on the accent thread and a white bleach spot on the lower right edge (shown in photo).
