523 Tecpan-0118Tecpán

This striking huipil is from the area of Tecpán. This lovely huipil measures 35” across the shoulders, and 23 1/2″ – 26 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded), one side is longer than the other. The neck opening is scallop shaped and measures approximately 6 1/2″ x 8 1/2″. The sides have been sewn to create armholes.

This huipil has the more modern style for Tecpán and is beautiful with its bright colors and hand weaving that features flowers, fruits, birds, and fish. The colors are shades of pinks, blues and reds and yellows. The background fabric is heavy woven white cotton. The thread is predominantly cotton.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in great used condition with few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and slight discoloration of the white background. The lower edges of the panels have a loose warp where the extra threads are woven back into the huipil. This is common in many styles of weaving. A stunning textile!
