611 Tecpan-0414Tecpán

This striking huipil is from the area of Tecpán. This lovely huipil measures 33” across the shoulders, 26″ across the lower section (is altered to make it more narrow along the waist)and 22 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and measures 5″ along each of the four sides. The sides have been sewn to create armholes, and trimmed inside to reduce bulk.

This huipil has the more modern style for Tecpán and is beautiful with its bright colors and hand weaving that features a row full of bouquets of flowers. The colors are shades of green, purple, black, and red. The background fabric is heavy woven white cotton. The thread is predominantly cotton.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good used condition with few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and very slight discoloration of the white background. Some slight wear at the neckline where the panels join. The lower edges of the panels have a loose warp where the extra threads are woven back into the huipil. This is common in many styles of weaving.
