Classic smaller vintage huipil from the town of Todos Santos Cuchumatán. This lovely huipil measures 28″ across the shoulders and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 3″ by 3″ with an additional tie-closed 2″ slit on one side of the opening (very tight to pull over adult head). The sides have been sewn to create armholes.

This daily use vintage huipil is striking with delicate woven designs that feature mayan stars and zigzag rivers and mountains throughout the bodice on both sides. This style of weaving leaves the loose ends on the inside, creating a shaggy lining that aids in warmth in the high mountain area. The huipil is accented around the collar with radiating lines of applique that is classic to the area. The neckline and shoulders are trimmed with a black accent. The background fabric is a rich cranberry/red colored cotton in the center and striped blue fabric on the outer panels.

This vintage huipil is in good used condition. There are a few loose threads. There is a small hole in the lower section of the bodice on one side. The neck opening shows typical wear of a vintage textile and one of the tie ends is worn. A wonderfully detailed huipil!
