477 Zacualpa-0037Zacualpa

Very striking huipil with beautiful weaving and design! It is from Zacualpa in the El Quiché region of Guatemala. This elegant huipil measures 25 1/2″ across the shoulders, and 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is an opening between the panels in both front and back and measures 10 1/2″ in length. The sides have been sewn to create armholes.

This huipil is striking with woven designs that feature zigzag rivers over the shoulders on both sides. The shoulder area is woven with super soft artiseda threads that have a luster and create a lovely sea of blue along the top of this garment.  The background is a soft red cotton blend with wonderful wide accent stripes in a seafoam green down the front and back.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in good used condition for its age, with a few signs of wear. There are a few loose threads and slight fading in the blue section. There are two tiny stains in the red section on one side. This is a very striking textile and would be a lovely piece to wear or display!
