573 Zunil-0197Zunil

Amazing hand embroidery on this textile! This very unique huipil is from Zunil, in the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala. It measures 31″ across the shoulders and 27 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter. The sides have been stitched closed a tiny bit just under the arm openings, the remainder of the sides are open.

This striking huipil is woven with cotton/acrylic blended threads that is common for the Zunil region. It features hand-done embroidery that surround the collar and the sleeves as well as down the front and back where the panels join. The background is pale dove grey with pinkish red stripes.

This huipil is in excellent used condition, with few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and some pulling of the background fabric. This is a spectacular textile with detail not often seen!
