#711 Zunil-0949Zunil

Bright and detailed embroidery on this textile! This striking huipil is from Zunil, in the Quetzaltenango region of Guatemala. It measures 33″ across the shoulders and 30″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures approximately 6″ in diameter with a small 3/4″ slit to allow ease in pulling over the head. The sides have been partially stitched to create arm holes.

This incredible huipil is woven with cotton/acrylic blended threads that is common for the Zunil region. It features lovely flowers radiating from the neck opening in wonderful detail, with similar accenting designs on the shoulder caps. In the very center of the collar design on both sides is and embroidered little farmer and his wife all done with free-hand machine embroidery. The cute little farmers are also featured on the beautiful design that runs down the front and back in the center where the panels join. The background is white with colorful stripes.

Additional photos can be found here.

This huipil is in excellent used condition, with few signs of wear, perhaps a few loose threads at the opening of the collar and sleeves from wear. A lovely huipil with beautiful colors!
