504 Rebozo Chajul-0187Chajul

Stunningly beautiful perraje/rebozo or shawl from the region of Chajul. This very elegant perraje would be worn over the shoulders or folded and placed on top of the head for special occasions. This stunning textile measures 24″ in width and 60″ in length, not including the additional 4″ fringe on each end. It is made from a single panel woven on a backstrap loom.

This classic shawl is woven with the traditional stripes in various colors fully decorated with geomorphic animal figures that are commonly found in the huipiles of the area. The beautiful designs include roosters, deer, horses, and two-headed eagles with a very tiny amount of metallic accent thread in a few of the designs. Delicate fringe adorns both ends of this textile.

Additional photos can be found here.

This perraje is in excellent used condition, with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and some stretching of the weaving in a few areas along the sides. This is a spectacular and fully decorated piece that is seldom seen so ornate! An amazing textile!
