Lovely huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Traditional tapestry style with beautiful flower design. Fantastic texture and color! This is a very stunning huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 32″ across the shoulders, 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 2″ slit to aid in putting over the head (note: this is a very tiny fit for someone with a small head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic flower design throughout the body and shoulders. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun, traditional for the region. The background fabric is woven black cotton.
This huipil is in good used condition with some sign of wear such as wear around the neck opening and some fading in the background fabric. There are some loose threads and some of the stitching holding the panels together has come out. This is a beautiful textile!
