Lovely huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Traditional tapestry style with beautiful geomorphic design. Fantastic texture and color! This is a very stunning huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders, 28″ across the chest, and 25″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 2 1/2″ slit to aid in putting over the head (note: this is a snug fit over an average head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic geomorphic design throughout the body and shoulders, featuring zigzags of mountains and rivers. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun, traditional for the region. The background fabric is rich woven brown cotton blend.
This huipil is in excellent used condition with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. This is a beautiful textile!
