Description
Very unique and hard to find vintage huipil in good condition! This huipil is from the area of Concepcion Chiquirichapa. This striking huipil measures 36″ across the shoulders, 34″ across the chest, 26″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is diamond shaped and each side measures 4 1/2” with and additional 3″ slit for extra room. The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This huipil is beautiful with its deep rainbow of colors on a deep burgundy-red cotton/acrylic blend background. Generally, huipiles of this area are woven on a multicolor background with much use of yellows. This vintage hupil is unique due to its restricted color palate. The design features the traditional animal motifs found in the huipiles of this region, including birds and corn plants throughout the bodice. The figures are much more noticeable than the tradition style huipiles of the area due to the solid color background. The collar and sleeves are trimmed in black velveteen.
This huipil is in good used condition, with some sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and some worn areas. Beautiful and unique vintage work of art!
