Very detailed woven vintage huipil from the village of Nebaj full of figures. This ornate huipil measures 34.5″ across the shoulders, 35″ across the chest, and 22″ -24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The panels are not equal in length. The neck opening is round and measures approximately 5.5″ in diameter (very tiny fit over adult head). The sides have had the stitching removed so that the huipil can open fully but can easily be stitched to create armholes if desired.
This huipil features extensive and elaborate weaving of geomorphic figures including various birds, deer, people, and horses that are representative for the area of Nebaj. The figures tell a wonderful story. The colors are a variety of greens, golds, whites and more on a background that is medium weight black woven cotton blend. The collar has accent trim.
This vintage huipil is in excellent used condition with very little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads. A very elegant piece, perfect for display or wear!
