Description

Vintage huipil from the village of Quetzaltenango. This striking huipil measures 32″ across the shoulders, 27 1/2″ across the chest, 22″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 7 1/4″ across over each of the four sides. The sides have been stitched to create armholes.

This huipil is beautiful with its striking figures throughout in various shades of red with accents of metallic threads. It is woven on a light denim blue cotton blend background. The design features the traditional motifs found in the huipiles of this region, including people, corn plants, and deer throughout the bodice. The figures are much more noticeable than the tradition style huipiles of the area due to the solid color background. The background is medium to lightweight cotton. The sides have been taken in approximately 1 1/2″ on each side, so opening the seams on the sides can add several inches to the overall width.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with very little sign of wear. There are perhaps a few loose threads. Beautiful and unique vintage work of art!
