Vintage huipil from the village of Quetzaltenango. This striking huipil measures 32″ across the shoulders, 32″ across the chest, 23 1/2″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is circular and measures 5″ in diameter with a 2″ slit to aid in pulling it over the head (very tight fit over average head – may require alterations to fit). The sides are unstitched to allow it to open fully, it can be restitched closed easily creating armholes. Let us know if you would like us to restitch it.
This huipil is beautiful with its striking colors throughout featuring geomorphic birds, mountains, and rivers. It is woven on a medium weight cotton blend white background. The collar is decorated with beautiful hand embroidery of flowers and a sweet little peacock on each side. There is a lovely hand stitched colorful randa that joins the panels. The head and sleeve openings are accented with black velveteen trim.
This huipil is in very good used condition, with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and some faint staining in the lower white section. A beautiful and unique vintage work of art!
