Description
Beautiful hand woven vintage huipil from the region of San Ildefonso Ixtahuacán located in the department of Huehuetnango. These aren’t seen as often as they used to be. This huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, 34.5″ across the chest, 19″ from the neckline to the bottom edge (folded). The neck opening is rectangular and measures 5″ x 4″ (smaller).
This striking huipil is woven with various multi-colored diamonds throughout the body. The collar area is accented with hand embroidered flowers of pinks, greens, yellows and blues that gives it almost a stained glass look. The neckline embroidery is done so that the design is the same inside and out. The areas where the panels join are also decorated in hand embroidery of small butterflies. The background fabric is a medium weight woven burgundy and white striped cotton.
This vintage huipil is in good used condition, with some loose loose threads throughout and wear in the hand embroidered designs. A beautiful textile for display or wear!
