Description

Very detailed vintage huipil, full of geomorphic maya figures! It is from the town of San Lucas Toliman. This striking huipil measures 29″ across the shoulders and 27″ across the chest, and 24″ – 25 from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded – the front and back panels are different lengths). The neck opening is square and measures 5 1/2″ along each of the four sides (ample fit over average head). The sides are stitched closed creating armholes.

This huipil is beautiful and woven with brilliantly colored accent designs throughout the bodice. The colors are mostly hues of blue, purple, and green that represent the amazing colors of nearby Lake Atitlan. The neck and sleeve openings are trimmed in burgundy velveteen. The background is a black/brown woven base.

This huipil is in good used condition with some sign of wear. Mostly a few loose or missing threads threads in the bodice from wear and slight fading of the color in some parts. The lower section has a few open parts of the weaving from wear. A striking textile!
