Description
Larger, colorful huipil from the town of San Martin Chile Verde. This striking huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders and 34″ across the chest, and 24″ & 30″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded), the panels are not even. The smaller neck opening is square and measures 4.5″ across each of the four sides (a very snug fit over average sized head). The sides have been unstitched to allow the huipil to open completely. The sides can easily be stitched to create armholes.
This huipil is full of geomorphic figures that represent corn plants, rivers, and mountains in a rainbow of soft pastel colors in acrylic blend threads. The woven background is a cotton-acrylic blend in white. There is a hand embroidered decorative randa down the center of each side. The collar features a hand-guided, machine embroidered accent with colorful flowers.
This huipil is in fair used condition, with signs of wear, a few loose threads, wear at the head and sleeve openings, loose weaving, and some worn areas/small holes. A unique huipil!
