Lovely rose-brown huipil full of stunning hand embroidered birds!! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This striking huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders and 30 1/2″ across the chest* (*if tailored side stitching is removed, it can be opened to at least 3″ more), and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 6 1/2″ along each of the four sides.
The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This huipil is absolutely beautiful with elaborate hand embroidery that features many beautiful birds filling the bodice. There is some use of tiny metallic thread accents. The sleeve openings are also accented with stunning hand embroidered birds. The woven cotton background is rose-brown with stripes. There are two decorative randa which feature crochet of beautiful flowersin gold and brown. This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the Santiago Atitlán region.
This huipil is in great used condition, with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and a small light spot on the side.
