Lovely purple huipil full of stunning hand embroidered birds!! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This striking huipil measures 28″ across the shoulders and 26″ across the chest* (*if tailored side stitching is removed, it can be opened to at least 3″ more), and 24″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is square and measures 6 1/2″ along each of the four sides. The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This huipil is absolutely beautiful with elaborate hand embroidery that features big beautiful birds filling the bodice. The sleeve openings are also accented with stunning hand embroidered birds. The woven cotton background is purple with stripes. This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the Santiago Atitlán region.
This huipil is in great used condition, with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and slight wear around the neck opening. A stunning textile!
