Description
Lovely huipil with stunning, hand embroidered birds!! It is from the town of Santiago Atitlán on the shores of Lake Atitlán. This striking huipil measures 36″ across the shoulders and 34″ across the chest, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures a generous 8″ in diameter.
The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This huipil is absolutely beautiful with elaborate hand embroidery that features three sweet birds on each side of the bodice. The neck and sleeve openings are accented with black velveteen trim. The woven cotton background is a rich red with taupe stripes. There are two decorative randa which feature crochet of beautiful flowers. This is a wonderful example of the incredibly beautiful huipiles of the Santiago Atitlán region.
This huipil is in good used condition, with a little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads, some slight fading of the color throughout. A stunning textile!
