Description
One of a kind striking vintage woven tzute shawl from the Chajul region in Guatemala. This tzute measures 51″ in length not including fringe along each end, and 25″ in width.
This is an elegant tzute or utility cloth/shawl made in the town of Chajul. Tzutes are generally used by both men and women in a variety of manners. They are used for many tasks including carrying items, covering the shoulders when cold, and folding and placing on the head to keep the sun off or when entering church.
This tzute is woven in the classic deep orange/red, multi-colored striped threads with fantastic geomorphic animals incorporated throughout and tassels on each end. The tzute is made on a single woven panel. This would make a spectacular shawl!
This tzute is in very good used vintage condition with little wear, perhaps a few loose threads. The colors have faded over the years resulting in beautiful earth tone colors. A stunning textile for display or use.
