Description
Large lovely huipil from the Chichicastenango region. Traditional tapestry style with beautiful flower design. Fantastic texture and color! This is a very stunning huipil from the Chichicastenango region of Guatemala, famous for having one of the largest markets in the country. This huipil measures 34″ across the shoulders, 33″ across the chest, and 27″ from the neckline to the bottom edges (folded). The neck opening is round and measures 5″ in diameter with an additional 2 1/2″ slit to aid in putting over the head (note: this is a snug fit over an average head). The sides have been stitched to create armholes.
This three panel huipil is striking with elaborate weaving that features a very unique multicolored classic flower design throughout the body and shoulders. The neckline is decorated with the radiating sun, traditional for the region. The background fabric is woven black cotton.
This huipil is in very good used condition with little sign of wear such, perhaps a few loose threads and some wear on the snap closure at the neckline. This is a beautiful textile!
