Very striking huipil, full of quetzal birds! It is from the town of Nahuala. This mostly cotton huipil is beautiful with its detailed woven design predominantly in purple. The pattern is quetzal birds across the chest and back with accents in blue, pink, orange, and green. There is bleeding of the color onto the light background cotton fabric, which is a desirable trait in the huipiles of this region. The technique is to intentionally let the color of the threads run onto the base fabric. It is said that this dates back to the use of expensive silk threads on the huipiles, which would lose some of the color and run, causing this stunning effect.

This huipil is in very good used condition, with little sign of wear, perhaps a few loose threads and some faint staining in the lower section in addition to the intentional running of the colors. A beautiful and unique vintage work of art!

This huipil is in very good used condition with little sign of wear, such as a few loose threads in the bodice embroidery and some tiny spots on the white base fabric. A truly exquisite textile!
